With its proximity to the sea, Qatar has a variety of beaches located around the nation. According to the body in charge of the area's development, a brand new beach will be built shortly on the western façade of the Old Doha Port. However, no firm completion date has been specified. Once completed, it will be one of the country's trendiest new tourist destinations, near to hotels, hotel apartments, hundreds of stores, cafés, restaurants, and services.
Some of the recreational features proposed for the beach area include a boardwalk, an 8-kilometer cycling route, a park, and a fish market. Other prominent tourist destinations nearby include the Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, the National Museum of Qatar, and the Doha Corniche.
The location is already well-known for gathering hundreds of people, residents, and visitors in the evenings and on weekends. During the Holy Month of Ramadan, it also hosts popular programming. The buildings in Old Doha Port were inspired by the architecture of old Qatari coastal cities and are painted in bright colours such as pink, green, white, yellow, brown, and blue.
