NewsThe Holy Qu'ran is being shown in a collection of rare variants during the 32nd Doha International Book Fair, which is now taking place at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Centre (DECC). These versions are valuable historically and artistically in terms of calligraphy, writing, and other aspects. Mohammad Mahir Hadri, a Syrian artist, created one of the most impressive series of the Holy Qur'an, which he wrote on a black velvet cloth in the manner of the covering threads of the Holy Kaaba.
Syrian calligrapher and embroiderer Mohammad Mahir Hadri said in statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that he had invented a new style of writing using thread and a sewing machine, a new technique that had never before been used to write the Holy Qur'an. He also said that he had completely finished the Holy Qur'an to be written by thread and a sewing machine for the first time in the world. He noted that the Holy Qur'an weighs 200 kg total, is about one metre high and half a metre broad every page, and took 12 years to complete. Each volume of the Holy Qur'an has two and a half portions, and each page has 15 paragraphs. He noted his interest in using embroidery to decorate the frames of the Quran's pages through counting on many decorative schools, indicating that each volume depended on an artistic decorative school and was dominated by Ottoman calligraphy. He added that the Holy Qu'ran is like the predominant copies that were written through Ottoman calligraphy. He stressed that the value of the Holy Qu'ran prompted him to participate in many international book fairs, as its value is amounted to QR100,000.
