NewsAl Rayyan Municipality, a member of UNESCO's Learning Cities Network, has initiated an afforestation effort to plant trees in public places as part of the "Plant One Million Trees" project.
The program is consistent with the ministry's efforts to improve environmental sustainability and achieve sustainable development, which include the planting of 3,963 offshoots in several locations, including Al Karaana, Jariyan Al Batnah, western Umm Qarn, Al Aamriya, Umm Hawta, and Al Dard Al Markhiya.
The municipality intends to build a solar-powered irrigation network in the Umm Qarn area, with the goal of operating irrigation water pumps in remote areas without relying on traditional electrical networks or power generation.
The project aims to achieve a wide range of environmental and strategic goals, including lowering greenhouse gas emissions, air and water pollution, conserving natural resources, strengthening adaptation to climate change, and rationalizing water consumption, particularly during dry seasons.
