NewsThe Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Agricultural Research Department, has created a third-generation Polycarbonate Drying House (PDH) for use in Qatar and other GCC countries, as well as an advanced irrigation system with a water efficiency rate of up to 45%, in order to increase date production and decrease waste while drying. The International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is in charge of overseeing "A Project to Develop Sustainable Production Systems for Date Palms in GCC Countries," which includes the two research projects.
For partners in the Project to Develop Sustainable Production Systems for Date Palms, ICARDA is organising a five-day event. Participating in the workshop are 38 researchers and professionals in the field of palm trees and dates from various specialised professional organisations and centres, as well as participants from Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
To increase the productivity of employees and researchers in the palm and date industry using the technologies created by the "Project for Developing Sustainable Date Palm Production Systems in GCC" programme, the workshop intends to promote training and transfer of developed technologies.
