Ashgal has won the ‘Distinction’ Award from the British Safety Council and the ‘Gold Award’ from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents for 2023

A new accomplishment has been accomplished by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) in the areas of health and safety, which are two of Ashghal's most important strategic pillars. For the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Project (Phase 1), the Authority, represented by the Drainage Networks Projects Department, has earned the "Distinction" Award from the British Safety Council and the "Gold Award" from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for 2023. Since the start of the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant Project (Phase 1), 3.5 million man-hours have passed without an accident.

Both the environmental management system certification (ISO 14001:2015) and the occupational health and safety management certification (ISO 45001:2018) that the project acquired are recognised as significant accomplishments for the project and the Authority as a whole.

Eng. Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Sulaiti, Head of Treatment Plants and TSE Network Projects Section, in this regard, stated that Ashghal needs contractors to submit a clear and integrated plan with particular standards and procedures to provide a safe and healthy working environment for employees. To assure compliance with these criteria, the Authority also keeps an eye on contractors' performance at worksite in all projects and requires them to provide monthly reports throughout projects.

Additionally, several programmes have been put in place to improve the safety culture among contractors, including rewarding those businesses who are most dedicated to upholding safety requirements. The plant, which is about 2 km southwest of the Doha Industrial Area, will accept industrial effluent from industrial facilities in the Doha Industrial Area and other locations that is carried through septic tanks. The plant has an initial capacity of 10,000 cubic metres per day and is constructed with integrated industrial wastewater treatment features and capabilities. There is also the option of future plant extension by adding new stages to accommodate future industrial developments.
