The General Directorate of Traffic have announced that trucks and buses carrying more than 25 people are not allowed to enter Doha during rush hour and are not allowed to enter February 22 Road at all. The Ministry of Interior made a statement that said, "The General Directorate of Traffic, in coordination with the relevant authorities, announces the regulation of traffic for trucks and buses with more than 25 passengers inside the city of Doha."
It went on to say that they might apply for an exemption permission to be admitted during certain times. But neither the peak hours nor the duration of the prohibition was mentioned in the department's announcement. It also declared that trucks and big buses would not be allowed to travel on February 22 Road in either direction, from Mesaimmer and Fereej Al Ali Intersections to Umm Lekhba (Landmark) Intersection. In keeping with the announcement, the Ministry asked drivers to obey traffic signs and supplied a map showing the regions of Doha where the restriction is in effect. This regulation is punishable by a QAR 500 fine for violations.
Through the website or the Metrash2 application, exception permits for trucks and buses carrying more than 25 people can be obtained by following the steps and choices listed as follows: (1) Traffic (2) Vehicles (3) Truck permits (4) Submit the application.
The following documents are required to apply for an exemption permit on the ban: a work contract with a government agency, a letter from the project management outlining the kind of permission, a copy of the company's registration, and a copy of a valid vehicle registration.
The rule is based on the Traffic Law's Article (49) which states that "the Licencing Authority may prohibit or restrict the use of any road or any part thereof for all vehicles or any type thereof."
