EventWith the rich tapestry of Indian culture, the largest Indian community celebration, "Passage to India," is scheduled to return to the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park. This year's event, which is slated to take place from March 7 to 9, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., is exceptional as it commemorates the 50 years of diplomatic ties between Qatar and India.
The celebration was originally scheduled for the previous year, but it was postponed. This makes this edition even more remarkable since it captures the joyous spirit of fifty years of bilateral ties. H E Vipul, the Indian ambassador to Qatar, was present at a news conference held yesterday at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC). Ambassador Vipul underscored in his speech the importance of the occasion in presenting the vast diversity of Indian culture, mirroring the peaceful coexistence of many customs inside India and its thriving expat population in Qatar.
With a wide range of cultural aspects on exhibit, the festival's diverse schedule is sure to enthral attendees. The event will captivate spectators with fascinating musical performances and enticing dance showcases, transporting them to the colourful rhythms and melodies of India. Gourmets may embark on a taste adventure exploring the myriad tastes of Indian cuisine, with a plethora of food stands serving mouthwatering treats.
Manikantan A P, the president of the ICC, expressed his excitement for the occasion and predicted that 10,000 to 20,000 people would attend each day. The event, which is organised in cooperation with the Indian Embassy and the Museums of Qatar, seeks to advance cross-cultural understanding and deepen the connection between the two countries.
One of the festival's highlights is a photographic exhibition that showcases the unique cultural tapestry of Qatar via the works of 100 brilliant photographers. Attendees may also anticipate amazing performances by well-known performers, such as the thrilling “Raas Dandiya” dance, the ICCR-sponsored Qawwali Troupe, and the Mega Thiruvathira dance.
Long-term Indian residents of Qatar will be honoured with a special homage in recognition of their unwavering contributions to the growth of the country. Housemaids hired prior to 1998, domestic workers hired prior to 1993, and people who have lived there since before 1983 are all included in these categories.
A complimentary shuttle service will be offered during event hours to ensure participants have easy access; pick-up locations will be announced closer to the event day. The event is free to attend and provides a welcoming environment for people to participate with the community and explore different cultures.
