NewsIn order to maintain Qatar's heritage, customs, traditions, and genuine identity as well as to instill a love for the holy month in the hearts of children, children in Qatar will celebrate the traditional Garangao night with their families on Wednesday.
The Garangao night is celebrated throughout Qatar in a unique heritage atmosphere, combining the revival of popular heritage with joy and fun, fostering communication, disseminating the spirit of affection, familiarity, and love in society, and enticing kids to learn about their society's traditions.
Popular researcher Khalifa Al Sayed Al Maliki said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that Garangao is an ancient custom that is observed every year on the night of the middle of the blessed month of Ramadan, adding that this occasion serves as a reminder to the younger generation of what parents and families were like in the past.
It is an ingrained practise that seeks to reward children for fasting for the first half of the blessed month of Ramadan and to encourage them to keep fasting until the end of the holy month.
The celebration, which takes place on the fourteenth evening of the holy month, features kids dressed in traditional Qatari attire singing a special Garangao song and going door to door gathering sweets, nuts, and chocolates from their neighbours. Their outfits are made to order and include pouches that give them room to keep all of their goodies.
Children will have the chance to personalise and decorate their Garangao bags before collecting their goodies and receiving their giveaways. Garangao bags are prepared for this event.
One of Ramadan's most cherished customs for young children is the celebration of Garangao, which is unique to Qatar and the broader Gulf. The festival is known by a slightly distinct name in each of the Gulf nations: in Oman, it is known as Garangashoch; in Kuwait, it is known as Karkee'aan.
