19 Jan 2023
Event Cinema Under the starsDoha Film Institute’s (DFI) “Cinema Under the Stars” which is a programme of family-friendly screenings outdoors, is back this year. The event will hold free movie screenings at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park from tomorrow to Saturday (Jan 19 to 21). It held screenings at Heenat Salma Farm, and Katara Hills in the past two years. The last time it was held in MIA Park was in 2020.
It will screen the 2016 film Hunt for the Wilderpeople on Jan 20, the much-loved 2013 movie Frozen; and on Jan 21, The Boy and the World. All movies will begin at 7pm; and the free-of-charge event has a limited capacity, according to DFI website.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople is directed by Taika Watiti who carefully intertwines off-the-hook wit, brilliant performances, and a heartwarming story to provide a new take on the wilderness adventure story. The film is based on the book Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry Crump.
The American computer-animated musical fantasy Frozen, meanwhile is directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. The story revolves around Anna and her sister Elsa. When their kingdom becomes trapped in perpetual winter, fearless Anna joins forces with mountaineer Kristoff and his reindeer sidekick to find Anna’s sister, Snow Queen Elsa, and break her icy spell. Although their epic journey leads them to encounters with mystical trolls, a comedic snowman, harsh conditions, and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff bravely push onward in a race to save their kingdom from winter’s cold grip. And, The Boy and the World is a 2013 Brazilian animation movie directed by Alê Abreu.
The film truly exemplifies the power of imagery and music as a combination that has more than enough to portray a powerful and profound message. It shows an adventurous quest that illustrates the issues of the modern world through the eyes of a child. A cautionary tale of globalisation, The Boy and the World teaches above all the dangers of the massification of the economy, of the mind, and of the soul. The first two movies will be in English with Arabic subtitles.
