Collectibles” exhibition for Arabian horses will continue until the end of KIAHF 2023

The “Collectibles” exhibition for Arabian horses, being held in cooperation with the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Museum, the Qatar National Library (QNL) and the Arab Postage Stamps Museum, is witnessing a large turnout. The “Collectibles” exhibition contains a section on Arabian Horses section at the Heritage Collection area of QNL which also includes many historical sources on horse pedigree and breeds and most notably the book Attributes of Purebred Arabian Horses. The section also includes the books on horses’ lineages, names of Arabian horses, and history of olden times battles witnessed in the region and related poems.

The exhibits on display also include books on horse diseases and treatments, in addition to the books “The Origins of Arabian Horses & Equestrian” and “Pure Arabian Horses and Their Breeds,” written by British author Wentworth, considered as one of the most famous horse breeders. 

Rare Qatari equestrian heritage pieces are also on display at the Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani Museum. These include horse tools from many countries such as Iraq, Syria, Qatar, India, Morocco and Yemen, which were used since the 9th century. Horseshoes, saddles, bridles for horses and stirrups, cavalry weapons and shoes, as well as pieces of carpet that are used as a cover for the horse’s back and placed before the saddle is put on.

The exhibition is also showcasing historical documents of the first highest pedigree horse that were first registered in the State of Qatar under the name “BintTwaisa,” and the fifth horse that was registered under the name “Ibn Wadnan” for their owner Father Amir H H Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. 

The pavilion also includes some valuable historical references and books that talk about genealogy of purebred Arabian horses in Qatar. The exhibition is being held at Building 1 at Katara and will continue until the end of KIAHF 2023.

Meanwhile, six qualified for “Al-Safnat Poet” award out of 146 participants. Finalists are Saud Kayed Saud Al-Balawi from Saudi Arabia, Faisal Nimas Al Riahi from Saudi Arabia, Abdullah Fahd Abdullah Al Jedei from Kuwait, Hamad Mukhalled Al-Mutairi from Kuwait, Muhammad Ahmed Al Mughairfi Al Harbi from Kuwait and Ahmed Muhammad Abdullah Al Muqbali from the Sultanate of Oman.They will be invited to recite six selected poems before the award jury today, February 3 within the activities of the festival.
