Doha's exceptional accomplishments in fostering lifelong learning have earned it the UNESCO Learning Cities Award for 2024.
At an honoring ceremony conducted in Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the opening of the 6th International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC 6), Mansour Ajran Al Buainain, Director General of Doha Municipality, accepted the prize.
There are 356 cities from 79 countries that are part of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC).
UNESCO Learning Cities are distinguished by their capacity to connect educational, training, and cultural establishments while involving a wide range of partners, such as employers, civil society organizations, and members of the public sector.
From elementary school to higher education, these cities mobilize resources from all sectors to support inclusive and high-quality learning.
It also encourages learning in the workplace, fosters learning in families and communities, and increases the use of contemporary learning technologies.
At the International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC), members gather every three years to review advancements, discuss obstacles, and develop common future solutions.
