First meeting of the Regular Forum for Job Localisation in Private Sector

Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri led the first meeting of the Regular Forum for Job Localisation in Private Sector. The meeting was attended by regulators of priority sectors in the localisation [Qatarisation] of jobs, including the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar Chamber (QC), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Katara Hospitality, the Ministry Communications, and Qatar Central Bank.

During the meeting, several motions and projects aimed at strengthening the national programme for Qatarisation of jobs in the private sector were reviewed, and the challenges of Qatarisation were tackled. The meeting discussed Qatarisation plans and the role of private sector companies in enhancing job Qatarisation rates and opening new horizons for the ability to grow and create job opportunities.

Dr Al Marri said “The Localisation Forum will constitute a qualitative leap in the job localisation programme in the private sector, as it comprises representatives of the vital bodies organising the sectors capable of attracting national cadres. It's creating an interactive dialogue platform that brings together the parties to the job localisation programme that will contribute to addressing challenges and barriers in the forthcoming period.”

He highlighted that the Ministry of Labour launched, since the beginning of this year, an interim phased scheme within the framework of a comprehensive strategy to enhance the Qatarisation programme in the private sector. He pointed out that the number of Qatari men and women who were recruited to the private sector during the first nine months demonstrates the ability of private sector institutions to attract national calibres and how availing from their talents will trigger development.

The Minister also noted that the job Qatarisation programme is not limited to providing jobs in private sector establishments, but rather creating training opportunities and reducing the gap between labour market needs and education outputs, in joint coordination with the Ministry of Education and educational institutions.

The Minister also pointed out that partnership, cooperation, and consultation with private sector companies and institutions are the best ways to increase the rates of job Qatarisation, noting the study of appropriate legislative options to achieve the sustainability of male and female citizens to apply for jobs offered through Kawader platform, and to avail benefits offered by private sector facilities to citizens, under the programme.

The Localisation Forum seeks to provide a platform that brings together representatives of the regulators of priority sectors in the Qatarisation of jobs to exchange ideas and best practices and points of attractiveness to Qataris.

The forum, which was launched by the Ministry of Labour, includes various sectors, including the manufacturing, services, tourism and hospitality, IT, finance, the health and education sectors.
