Flexible and remote work system effective from September 29; government employees can apply through “Mawared”

The Civil Service and Government Development Bureau (CGB) has announced that the government sector will begin using flexible and remote work systems from September 29. Government employees can apply for the "remote work system" through the Government Resource Planning System - "Mawared."The State Cabinet authorised this arrangement.

Beneficiaries can apply for the "Remote Work" system accessing the "Mawared" system through a few simple steps. To be eligible for remote work, employees must enter the system and specify the days and times they would like to work from home. The applications will be individually received and approved by the applicant's director.

Qatari mothers working in government organisations, having children under 12 can apply to work remotely using the Mawared system. It is also necessary to upload the child's certificate with the application.

As per CGB, the flexible working arrangement operates from 7 am to 2 pm, seven days a week. If an employee completes their formal working hours, they can report between 6:30 and 8:30 without impacting their work requirements.

Employees eligible for reduced work hours because of disability, medical condition, or the two hours of lactation that mothers are allowed, may arrive late to work in proportion to the hours owed to them, as long as they finish the required number of hours.

Based on the director of the administrative unit's recommendation, the head of the government agency may authorise a portion of its workforce to work remotely, up to a maximum of 30% of all employees in the administrative unit of each government agency. The proposal aims to adopt flexible systems that suit the needs of competencies in the government sector without compromising work requirements, within the framework of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the 3rd National Development Strategy 2024-2030.
