Hamad International Airport (HIA) formally opened two new concourses, D and E, reaching a significant milestone in its growth and expanding its capacity to accommodate more over 65 million passengers a year.
The airport's ambitious growth plan has come to a head with the opening of Concourses D and E, completing the expansion project that started in 2018. The ORCHARD, a 6,000-square-meter indoor tropical garden, was unveiled in 2022, marking the beginning of a transformative journey that culminates in this milestone.
Modern amenities and state-of-the-art technology are introduced in the new concourses, which blend in well with the existing terminal to accommodate the increasing demand from passengers.
With the construction of 17 new aircraft interface gates, the terminal's overall area has increased to 62 square meters, approximately 40 percent more than it was previously. This ensures improved connection, simpler operations, and a considerable reduction in bus transfers. The terminal's current size is 845,00 square meters, a 14 percent increase.
Additionally, it introduces cutting-edge self-boarding devices that streamline the boarding procedure and make travel faster and more effective. Intelligent technology guarantees seamless transfers from the terminal to the aircraft, reduces wait times, and enables quick document verification.
With the D and E Expansion, Qatar Duty Free is increasing the amount of retail space at the airport by 2,700 square meters and adding over nine new retail stores as well as food and beverage establishments.
Both travelers and airlines will benefit greatly from this increase in terms of connection. The airport can now handle more international airlines and provide more direct flights to important international destinations thanks to its additional gates and improved flight operations.
