Largest electric bus depot has been inaugurated in Lusail

The Lusail Bus Depot, largest electric bus depot in the world and the first of its kind in the Middle East was inaugurated as announced by the Ministry of Transport. The announcement was made via a tweet on 18 October 2022. Located in the warehouse site west of Lusail, the bus depot has the capacity to accommodate 478 electric buses and is equipped with 11,000 units of solar panels. Four megawatts of energy will be generated per day to support the warehouse buildings with the required energy.

The Lusail Bus Depot is the first in the Middle East to rely on solar energy, and this is in line with Qatar's National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE) goals and helps achieve the leadership’s vision as well.

Additionally, the Lusail warehouse will have a dedicated section for high-speed electric buses. These buses are one of the most advanced mediums of transport and will support public transportation from Lusail Stadium to Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor during the World Cup 2022. It was mentioned that the inauguration of the largest electric bus depot was in line with the Ministry's efforts to ensure that the public transport network in Qatar is integrated and sustainable. The depot also has a special zone for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) e-buses that will contribute to supporting fan transportation during the World Cup.
