NewsWith 130 new visual resources available in sign language, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has introduced a new Ramadan webpage for the hard of hearing. Islamweb.net, of which the portal is a part, strives to give religious resources to all facets of society.
The Department of Religious Call and Guidance's Assistant Director, Jassim Abdullah Al Ali, spoke at the ceremony yesterday at the ministry's headquarters. He stated that the department is continuously adding visual materials to the portal to make it more accessible to those who are hard of hearing.
To better serve the community, he added, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is aiming to provide more information to the targeted demographic through this project. The Sokoon application, which aims to improve inclusivity and digital access for hard of hearing people in the Arab world, was recently developed within the framework of Qatar's initiative to digitise the Unified Arabic Sign Dictionary. The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MoSDF) is representing this initiative in collaboration with the League of Arab States. Last month, the MoSDF and the Mada Centre jointly released the Sokoon app, which digitises sign language.
