25 Feb 2023
NewsThe Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has launched the slogan ‘Our Earth Our Legacy’ for Qatar Environment Day 2023, to renew the commitment of Qatar for preserving the environment. The day, which falls on February 26, aims at educating people about the importance of preserving the environment for addressing climate change and encouraging community members to adopt eco-friendly behaviour.
On the occasion of Qatar Environment Day, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change asked citizens and expatriates to shoulder their social responsibility towards the environment by following six simple steps.
People have been asked to rationalize water consumption, reduce consumption of some materials by reusing them, use energy-efficient bulb, and switch off lights when leaving the room.
The Ministry also asked community members to plant trees, volunteer in environmental campaigns (beach cleaning for example) and educate others about the importance of preserving natural resources.
On the occasion of Qatar Environment Day 2023, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in coordination with partners from public and private institutions has planned a slew of events.
The Ministry will hold an event today at Al Aliya Island located off the coast of Al Daayen Municipality, north of The Pearl-Qatar. During the event, a number of activities will be held such as sea turtle and baby fish release, island cleaning, deep sea cleaning, mangrove seedlings plantation, and making nests for birds.
Qatar has placed climate change at the forefront of its priorities, and it continues to take the necessary measures to develop climate change-related technologies and clean energy.
Qatar National Environment and Climate Change Strategy of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change enhanced the state efforts to cut carbon footprint at the targeted level. Planting the millionth tree under the Plant Million Tree initiative and the launch of the Al Kharsaah Solar PV Power Plant (KSPP) are among the major achievements of Qatar in addressing climate change and protecting the environment in 2022.
The initiative for segregating and recycling wastes for the zero-landfill goal also enhanced the State’s efforts to cut pollution and carbon emissions in the country.
The establishment of charging stations for electric vehicles is also reaching an advanced stage for promoting electric vehicles to curb the carbon footprint drastically.
