The Department of Waste Recycling and Treatment at the Ministry of Municipality organized awareness events for the public, aiming at raising awareness of the need to reduce the use of plastic bags to preserve and sustain the environment,
Set by the Qatar National Vision 2030, the events were organized in cooperation with Lulu Hypermarket with the aim to educate the public about the importance of reducing the use of single-use plastic bags and replacing them with multi-use and recyclable bags.
Educational publications and environmentally friendly bags were also handed out to the attendees during the event.
The Assistant Director of the Department of Waste Recycling and Treatment Hassan Nasr Al Nasr said that organizing such events on the occasion of the International Plastic Bag Free Day, which falls on the third of July of every year, aims to educate the public about the best ways to use environmentally friendly bags and their benefits, and to stress the need to stop using plastic bags.
He further added that these events also aimed to introduce the controls on the use of plastic bags and instead promote for alternatives made of fabric.
Additionally, this was an occasion to observe the International Plastic Bags Free Day in service of the Ministry's goals of promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly cities, as well as introducing plastic alternatives for the future and the sustainability of the country's resources.
For his part, the Regional Director of Lulu Hypermarket, Shanavas Padiyath valued the distinguished partnership with the Ministry of Municipality in organizing such events, and encouraging the public to use environmentally friendly paper bags instead of plastic bags.
