MocI issues new circular that allows consumers to directly import vehicles from abroad

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MocI) has published a new circular that empowers consumers by allowing them to import vehicles directly from abroad while receiving full warranty coverage and after-sales service. Circular No. (1) of 2025, issued under Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection, permits individuals to import vehicles directly from abroad while ensuring that dealerships honor manufacturer warranties and provide spare parts and maintenance services for directly imported vehicles that meet Gulf Standard Specifications.

The circular also compels dealers in Qatar to accept responsibility for any shortages of replacement parts and severely bans unnecessary delays in providing warranty services. According to the Ministry's Consumer Protection and Combating Commercial Fraud Department, this decision greatly protects consumer rights in the car industry by blocking potential monopolistic practices.

Dealers must now comply with these regulations or risk legal action. 

- Follow all warranties issued by the manufacturer or dealer for the products.

- Assume responsibility for the availability of spare parts or warranties for durable items, as prescribed by the applicable rules.

- Individuals who directly import their vehicles from abroad will have easier access to warranties, spare parts, and maintenance services, as long as the vehicles meet Gulf Standard Specifications.

- Ensure that imported vehicle warranties, spare parts, and maintenance services are provided on schedule and without unnecessary delays.
