MoECC has taken adequate measures for radiation protection by installing advanced devices

Adequate steps have been made by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) to safeguard people from radiation. Among the significant actions lately undertaken by the Ministry for radiation safety are the installation of cutting-edge equipment to measure radiation levels and the training of customs agents.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) defines radiation protection as “the protection of people from harmful effects of exposure to ionizing radiation, and the means for achieving this.” It is sometimes referred to as radiological protection. Employees of the General Authority of Custom attended a training session on radiation basics and techniques for radiation detection and screening that was recently organized by the MoECC at the Customs Training Center.

According to Al Dosari, the workshop's objective was to improve the abilities of inspectors stationed at border checkpoints to examine the consignments' radioactive materials and x-ray machines. This falls under the umbrella of the MoECC's initiatives to improve and boost the effectiveness of regulatory work conducted at border crossings, as well as national projects and extensive training programs that qualify personnel responsible for overseeing the import and export of radioactive materials and devices for use in industry, medicine, and scientific research.

Recently, the MoECC held a training session at the Customs Training Center for General Authority of Custom employees. The workshop covered radiation basics and methodologies for radiation detection and screening.

Al Dosari stated that the workshop's goal was to strengthen the inspectors' capacity to assess the consignments' radioactive items and x-ray machines at border checkpoints.

This falls under the purview of national projects and extensive training programs that qualify personnel in charge of supervising the import and export of radioactive materials and devices for use in industry, medicine, and scientific research, as well as the MoECC's initiatives to enhance and increase the efficacy of regulatory work carried out at border crossings.
