Mwani Qatar ports handled 111,341 twenty-foot equivalent units containers in February 2024

NewsIn February 2024, 111,341 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers were handled by the Mwani Qatar ports (Hamad Port, Doha Port, and Ruwais Port), an increase of around 8% over the previous month. According to Mwani Qatar on its X platform, the ports also saw increase of 186% in RORO units, 127% in cattle, and 186% in general and bulk cargo.
In February 2024, 198 ships called at Qatar's three ports. In addition, the ports handled 169,212 tonnes of cargoes of general and bulk cargo, 7,163 RORO vehicle units, 71,219 cattle heads and 40,898 tonnes of building materials. One of the main objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 is economic diversification, which is supported by the container terminals' architecture, which also addresses the growing amount of commerce and makes conducting business easier.
Ports that pass assessment tests, achieve the necessary performance indicators, and adhere to the Foundation's environmental and sustainable management requirements are awarded global accreditation. With the acquisition of this certificate, Hamad Port has made history by being the first port in the Gulf Cooperation Council to join the world's most prestigious network of EcoPorts accredited ports.
In order to serve nations like Kuwait and Iraq and to the south, towards Oman, Hamad Port provides options for cargo transportation into the upper Gulf. This is crucial to Qatar's efforts to diversify its economy and boost its competitiveness in accordance with the objectives of National Vision 2030.
