The public has been warned by officials to be wary of frauds that take advantage of people's kindness during the holy month of Ramadan. In response to an increase in online fundraising fraud, the warning was issued.
In a recent joint statement, the Qatar Central Bank, National Cyber Security Agency, and Qatar Financial Center Regulatory Authority expressed their worries and provided guidance on how to prevent online fraud.
Guidelines were also released to the public, the first of which states that donations should only be made to respectable and officially recognized nonprofits.
People have been advised not to reply to requests for donations made by phone, email, or social media, particularly when the demands use emotional manipulation or pressure methods. The intention is to prevent dishonest people or organizations from exploiting generous contributors.
The hotline number (33618627) has been established by the authorities for the purpose of reporting any suspicious solicitation attempts. In order to report such fraudulent acts, the authorities have also encouraged individuals to use the Metrash app.
