NewsThe FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) event that will be held at the Lusail International Circuit for the first time in early March 2024 will be known officially as "Qatar 1812". The news was released during a press conference in Paris when the schedule for the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship, which will feature eight races on four continents, was also announced.
The event, which lasts around 10 hours and covers about 1812 kilometres, is named for Qatar National Day, which is celebrated annually on December 18 (18/12). As Qatar debuts the 12th season of the coveted international endurance series and raises its profile in the world of racing competitions, the name invokes a historic heritage.
Qatar will host the WEC Prologue in February 2024 and the season-opener in March 2024, hosting the world's finest endurance racing drivers and premier sponsors showing the newest Hypercars. These events will take place on the fully renovated 5.418km Lusail International Circuit. The FIA World Endurance Championship secured a six-year contract for the event to be held in Qatar until 2029, adding the race as a new challenge to the WEC schedule.
The news is made while work on the Lusail International Circuit is almost finished. The improvements will guarantee that drivers, teams, and fans have an outstanding experience at the track.
The revamp, which includes state-of-the-art technological improvements for the race control, media and medical centres, new pit boxes, and larger spectator spaces, marks a significant achievement in Qatar's commitment to providing cutting-edge facilities for motorsport aficionados.
The Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix, the Qatar MotoGP, and the Geneva International Motor Show later this year are just a few of the sporting events that will be held at the Lusail International Circuit this year.
