The Shawwal crescent moon was seen Thursday thereby confirming Friday, April 21, 2023, as the first day of the auspicious Eid Al Fitr in Qatar, according to the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs.
This was said in a statement made by the Committee on Qatar Television.
According to Qatari authorities, at least 500 mosques will hold early Friday morning Eid prayers.
The nationwide prayer will be held at 5:21 AM in mosques this year, according to a statement from the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), which also provided 500 places for worshippers to choose from.
Depending on the moon's phases, the Islamic lunar calendar's months last 29 to 30 days and start when a crescent is seen.
