NewsThe increasing demand for agricultural products brought about by population expansion and growing consciousness of food security is expected to propel the global agricultural market into substantial development in the next years. By 2052, the population of the globe is expected to increase from 8.1 billion to 9.8 billion, according to UN estimates. According to the World Bank, the percentage of people who were hungry worldwide increased from 7.9% in 2019 to around 9.2% in 2022.
With its creative ideas and strategic approach, Qatar is stepping up its efforts to address this global issue and become a leader in environmentally conscious and sustainable agriculture. Qatar, with the announcement of a revised National Food Security Strategy this year, is putting strategic food and agricultural policies into action, emphasising sustainable systems and creative solutions.
The nation's Natural Resource Management Strategy also aims to increase the productivity of plants, animals, and fisheries by using modern farming practises and optimising land usage. Additionally, Qatar is stepping up its efforts to conserve resources, adjust to climate change, and use renewable energy in the agriculture sector.
Key elements transforming agriculture technology is driving a wave of upheaval in Qatar's agriculture industry. As a result, local producers now have more authority to use resources optimally, make data-driven decisions, and reduce their negative environmental effects. Qatar has embraced vertical farming, a relatively new technique with many advantages. In arid nations like Qatar, where water is limited and temperatures may rise, vertical farming can be very helpful. This technology allows producers to create the ideal growing environment in arid locations by controlling temperature, humidity, and light levels, resulting in the production of more food with less resources.
Qatar is the first nation in the Middle East and North Africa to host Expo 2023 Doha, the International Horticultural Exhibition. The event, with the theme "Green Desert - Better Environment," aims to educate and inspire people worldwide about innovative ways to slow down desertification. It offers a forum for cooperation and discourse and presents the most recent developments in environmentally conscious technology, sustainable agriculture, and environmental consciousness.
The festival, which spans 179 days in Al Bidda Park, is organised in association with the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) and the International Association for Horticultural Producers (AIPH). It offers a forum for change and issues a call for personal engagement and global awareness. Expo 2023 Doha is being held in more than 80 nations and is anticipated to draw three million people.
