FIFA announced that Qatar's football team reached 48th place in the world ranking. The announcement was made on 25 August 2022, which also announced Qatar's ranking at the 5th place in the Asia category in the monthly rankings. Brazil retained the top spot in the global category, followed by Belgium and Argentina in second and third place.
The FIFA ranking procedure follows a new model that came into force in 2018 named 'SUM'. The model focuses on adding/subtracting points won or lost for a game from previous point totals rather than averaging game points over a period of time.
