The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), along with other strategic partners, has launched a new global initiative to support the empowerment of women and girls in conflict-affected areas through humanitarian aid and development assistance.
The program, titled Women in Conflict Zones (WICZ), aims to transform the lives of thousands of women and girls through access to social and economic services.
Its projects include programs that provide educational opportunities and job training for girls in Afghanistan.
"We live in a world where women continue to experience high levels of violence, poverty and exclusion, especially in conflict situations and vulnerable contexts," Qatar's Assistant Foreign Minister Lolwa Al-Qatar said at the opening of the WCIZ on Friday. On the occasion of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Alkhatar highlighted how conflict and violence disproportionately affect women, pushing them further into vulnerability and poverty.
"Women in vulnerable environments are often left behind," she said, adding that "between 1990 and 2017, women's participation in most mediation efforts was zero, and they were the most affected".
