Qatar has ranked among the top 10 global markets in electric vehicle readiness

According to the most recent assessment on global electric vehicle (EV) mobility, the Global Electric Mobility preparedness Index (GEMRIX) 2023 by Arthur D. Little (ADL), Qatar is listed in the top 10 worldwide markets in terms of EV preparedness and is ranked ninth. The third version of the research, GEMRIX 2023, covered 35 markets on every continent, making it the most complete EV market readiness indicator on the market.

This achievement demonstrates the nation's dedication to advancing environmentally friendly transportation in line with QNV2030 and Qatar's National Environment and Climate Change Strategy goals. In light of this, the Ministry of Transport is supporting all facets of Qatari growth by offering creative, environmentally responsible mobility options. This falls under the broad purview of an all-encompassing, integrated plan formulated by the MoT with the objective of gradually shifting the public bus system to 100% electricity by 2030.

Nearly 70% of e-buses are now in operation, and they are backed by an integrated infrastructure for electric charging. This places Qatar among the top nations in the world for having a zero-carbon transport sector, which leads to less energy use, less harmful emissions, a smaller carbon footprint, and an improved standard of living.

To further these efforts, the MoT is currently researching EV standards and specifications in collaboration with the relevant bodies. The goal is to determine and approve the EVs' minimum technical specifications and safety standards. Additionally, a specialised centre will be established to inspect and verify EV conformance and specifications, as well as to issue approval certificates.

In an effort to create intelligent, ecologically friendly transportation systems, the MoT has also introduced the Autonomous cars Strategy, which aims to control the terms and circumstances of utilising autonomous cars in Qatar. This improves Qatar's standing internationally in terms of e-mobility adoption, innovation support, and keeping up with developments in the environmentally friendly transportation sector.
