Qatar authorities have released plans to manage traffic congestion in the capital Doha ahead of the World Cup.
The Committee for the Cornish Street Closure Implementation Plan has announced details of the traffic mitigation plan, which includes separate rules for different number plates.
Public transport and vehicles with black private transport number plates will be diverted from central Doha.
The plan will be in effect every Friday from 3pm to 10pm from September 30 and will cover areas stretching from Al Khafji Street in the north to Corniche Street in the east and C-Ring Road in the west and south.
When the FIFA World Cup kicks off in November 2022, the plan will come into full effect on a daily basis.
All emergency vehicles, Mowasalat and Qatar Rail public transport vehicles and individuals with only one car (with a public transport number plate or a private black number plate) are excluded from the plan and will be allowed access to these routes.
The committee also clarified that any car entering central Doha during the implementation period of the plan without complying with the exemption requirements will be fined by the appropriate authorities.
