Qatar Rail held its annual meeting for staff, partners, and consultants, themed: “Transport Management for Mega Events”, attended by Minister of Transport is H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti and Minister of Municipality and Managing Director and CEO of the Qatar Railways Company H E Abdulla bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie.
The meeting comes in the context of Qatar Rail’s continued developmental efforts in preparation for hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
During the meeting, Minister Al Sulaiti pointed out to the essential role the multimodal public transit network plays, and which presents a coherent, sustainable transit unit characterized by high operational efficiency including the public bus system, the Doha Metro network and Lusail Tram and which covers all areas across the country.
He also stressed the importance of the Doha Metro alongside other public means of transportation for supporting and for the success of organising mega events and hosting various major events, particularly the sports such as the Amir Cup finals, the 2019 Arabian Gulf Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup 2019 & 2020 and the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.
He also affirmed such a great performance will continue during the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 within the framework of the transportation plans that aim at providing an exceptional, safer, more coherent and more flexible experience for visitors and fans, by helping them to reach their residences, stadiums, service facilities and touristic landmarks across the country easily.
In turn, Managing Director & CEO of Qatar Rail H E Dr. Abdulla bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, said: “We are pleased to have held this important meeting, which comes 4 months before the largest event the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Readiness Townhall discussions were very productive and fruitful as we discussed Qatar Rail’s readiness and preparations taking into account the main challenges for the 2022 World Cup.”
“Overall, the Townhall came with Qatar Rail’s efforts aimed at intensifying the collaboration between all involved parties, bringing about the subject matter expertise to understand the best practices and learn from challenges faced by previous mega events hosted around the world, as we get ready to host the World Cup,” he added.
