Qatar to have new, world-scale urea production complex and a new solar power mega project

More than twice as much urea and solar energy will be produced in Qatar with the plans announced by QatarEnergy to construct a new, global urea production complex and a massive solar power project. With the new facilities, Qatar's urea production will more than double to 12.4 million tons annually from its present level of roughly six million tons. Before the end of this decade, production from the first new urea train under the project is anticipated. Three ammonia production lines will be constructed as part of the new massive project in Mesaieed Industrial City, providing feedstock to four new urea production trains operating on a global scale.

In the meantime, the new solar power mega project will construct one of the largest solar power plants in the world, with a production capacity of 2,000 megawatts, in the Dukhan area, increasing Qatar's PV solar power production capacity to nearly 4,000 megawatts.

The new solar project will complement QatarEnergy's portfolio of solar power projects, which already includes the 800 megawatt Al Kharsaah solar power plant, which was opened in 2022, and two solar power projects that the company is currently developing in the industrial cities of Ras Laffan and Mesaieed. These projects have a combined production capacity of 875 megawatts and are anticipated to begin operations before the end of this year.
