Qatar Tourism announces updates to the regulations governing marine tourism transport
30 Oct 2024
NewsQatar Tourism has announced changes to the rules pertaining to the licensing of maritime tourism offices and all types of marine transport boats (A, B, and C). In accordance with global best practices, Qatar Tourism has released a new categorisation guide that describes the technical specifications and regulations required for the operation of maritime tourism transport vehicles. These revisions comply with the 2018 Tourism Regulation Law No. (20).
Category (A) boats will not be allowed to operate, be present, or dock in the Doha Corniche region until all requirements are met. This is because they do not meet the technical requirements and classification standards listed in Version 1.1 of the 2024 Classification Guide.
The following are examples of marine transportation means: Boats in category (A) are primarily used for short voyages and are exclusively seen in the Corniche region. Boats in category (B) are those that travel far and operate outside of the Corniche. Yachts and other premium and luxury vessels that provide lodging and food for extended journeys are under category (C).
Only Category (A) can be run by individuals; licensed tourism businesses should operate Categories (B) and (C).
While a three-month grace period has been extended for all categories, owners and managers of maritime tourism transport offices, as well as vessel owners and operators, must guarantee compliance with the new laws within the allotted term (August 25, 2024). In addition to encouraging private sector investment and establishing the sector's strategic direction, Qatar tourist oversees and grows the tourist business.
