Qatar University has launched the Global Sustainability Space Challenge competition

In collaboration with international partners and supported by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Qatar University (Q) launched the first-of-its-kind Global Sustainability Space Challenge competition on Monday to align with FIFA World Cup. Cup Qatar 2022, hosted by Qatar.

The competition falls within the framework of the vision of the College of Business and Economics at QU, which is to undertake a wide range of initiatives and measures that underpin sustainable operations and promote a sustainable culture locally and globally.

The competition offers the opportunity to further explore the innovative solutions needed by teams from many countries, disciplines and backgrounds to engage a group of teams from 16-26 year olds connected to schools and universities around the world. One of the most pressing challenges threatening planet Earth is seeking to achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals 2030, using breakthrough technologies and space exploration as an accelerating force in global dedicated efforts to overcome life-sustainability challenges. 

The preliminary stages of the competition at Metaverse will be implemented in September 2022, followed by teams that have qualified for the final stage in Qatar in mid-October 2022 to further engage in the hackathon stage, as the challenges are intended to promote the issue of sustainability. Educating young generations locally and internationally and building skills to achieve a sustainable future on Earth, and highlighting ways to capitalize on the potential of building a space economy and protecting Earth.

At the opening ceremony of the competition, HE QU President Dr. Hasan bin Rashid al-Darham said. A stable and prosperous future in Qatar and a better world for all, the competition is in the framework of QU's contribution to achieving sustainable economic and social growth in Qatar; It is pointed out that QU has taken several initiatives and important steps to promote sustainable culture, modernize knowledge, improve scholarship and skills by focusing on relevant issues of sustainability in the educational curriculum, focusing on scientific research and promoting practices that achieve sustainability of resources primarily. Protection for posterity.
