Qatari mountaineer makes history completing Explorer's Grand Slam

Sheikha Asma bint Thani Al-Thani, a mountaineer from Qatar, made history two days ago on October 11, 2024, when she took a photo atop the Castensz Pyramid in Central Papua. She was the first Arab and Qatari to complete the esteemed Explorer's Grand Slam.

After climbing Kilimanjaro in 2014, Sheikha Asma completed her Explorer's Grand Slam adventure in 2018 by reaching the North Pole, and in 2019 she successfully ascended Aconcagua. After climbing Elbrus in 2021, Sheikha Asma started the next year by skiing to the South Pole Last Degree from Mount Vinson in January. She was then standing atop her ideal location, the formidable Everest, in May 2022.

She ascended Mt. Denali in June 2022, completing the Grand Slam with just one peak remaining.

The summits of Mount Lhotse, Kangchenjunga, Mount Ama Dablam, Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Manaslu, and Labuche Peak have all been accomplished by Sheikha Asma.
