The 'Rhamnus and Honey' festival was launched yesterday by the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality at the Al Mazrouah Yard, Umm Salal Central Market. The festival will continue until February 4 from 7 am to 2 pm. The Ministry invites the public to attend the 10-day festival featuring 25 local farms. 15 local farms are offering varieties of rhamnus (kanar) fruits in large quantities, while 10 farms are selling natural honey products.
The festival seeks to promote local agricultural products, support Qatari farms, and draw crowds to the winter market to take advantage of high-quality products directly from Qatari farms.
The event particularly aims to market locally grown rhamnus or kanar by introducing its various types to the public, especially since the fruit is known to be rich in nutritional value. Kanar season begins mid-January to May.
Local farms have been receiving tremendous support from the Ministry of Municipality. Just recently, the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality also organized a 10-day 'Honey and Dates Festival' from December 29, 2022 until January 7, 2023. A total of 1,837kg dates of different types, 826kg honey, and 35.5kg beeswax were sold during the festival.
