In February, two Qatari women were included in Forbes' list of business women in the corporate world.
Seven Qatar-based companies jointly owned and run by family members have made it to Forbes' 2022 list of the top 100 Arab family businesses in the Middle East.
Al Faisal Holding, headed by Faisal bin Qasim Al Thani, is in ninth place. It is held by 50 companies across culture and education, hospitality, real estate, construction, project management, trading, manufacturing and financial investment.
Founded in 1964, the company has 29 hotels in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Europe and the United States. The 13th slot was taken by Power International Holding, a second-generation family conglomerate operating in five main sectors including public contracting, industries, services, agriculture, food industries, real estate, lifestyle, hospitality, entertainment and catering.
Its subsidiaries include Estithmar Holding, real estate company ASSETS, lifestyle hospitality and entertainment firm AURA Group, construction company UCC Holding and milk and dairy brand BALADNA.
Alfardan Group, whose businesses include jewellery, financial exchange, property development, automotive, hospitality, marine and investment, is ranked 33rd.
First established in 1954 as Hussain Ibrahim Alfardan Alfardan Jewelery Company, the group also owns the St. Regis Doha Hotel, Al Ghassar Resort, Laguna Beach, Marsa Malaz Kempinski and Al Sadd Residences.
