Sheikha Wafaa bint Ahmed Mosque opened in Umm Salal on Tuesday

Mohammed bin Hamad Al Kuwari, assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs for Da'wah and Mosque Affairs, opened the Sheikha Wafaa bint Ahmed Mosque in Umm Al Amad village, Umm Salal district, on Tuesday.

The 1,060-seat mosque was constructed on a 4,000 square metre site for a total of QR 5,433,000 as part of the ministry's plan to develop and increase the number of mosques across the country in order to keep up with population growth and urbanisation in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The mosque also has accommodations for the imam and muezzin in addition to 25 public parking spaces, some of which are designated for those with impairments.

The Department of Engineering Affairs is responsible for meeting the temporary mosque needs of the country's districts, ensuring their preservation, and developing the annual plan for mosque and imams' residence maintenance in collaboration with the appropriate authorities.

The department considers the various types of land on which mosques will be constructed as well as the needs for green and sustainable structures, putting particular emphasis on the requirements for sustainability in the use of electricity and water as well as the preservation of the aesthetics of heritage in designs in a way that reflects the authenticity of Qatari and Islamic heritage in accordance with the highest standards.
