NewsThe Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD) has granted the Sport City Station in Doha Metro the Platinum Certificate for sustainable operations under the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS). This announcement was made by Qatar Railways Company, also known as Qatar Rail. At the Sport City station, Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Horr, the founding chairman of GORD, presented the certificate to Qatar Rail's chief of strategy and business development, Ajlan Eid Al Enazi.
Sport City Station on the Doha Metro's Gold Line has made history by becoming the third station in the network to receive the coveted GSAS Platinum certification for sustainable operation. Education City Station and Al Bidda Station were the first to do so in October 2022 and September 2023, respectively. This accomplishment is consistent with Qatar Rail's efforts to apply the best standards and practices throughout all phases of operations for various metro facilities, promote sustainability, and implement green construction standards at Doha Metro stations.
Sport City Station was put through a rigorous evaluation in a number of areas in order to receive the Platinum grade for GSAS Operations. This involved assessing its water use, waste management, indoor environment quality, energy efficiency, facility management, and environmental policies and awareness.
The Doha Metro is the first metro project in history to receive an authorised sustainable accreditation that is especially suited for train stations and covers every phase of the project, from design to building to operation. This strengthens Qatar's standing as a major participant in the transportation industry that is sustainable. The utilisation of cutting-edge technology has set the Qatar Rail projects apart from the rest, both during the design and execution phases.
