NewsMowasalat (Karwa) and Yutong have successfully carried out a routine trial operation of an autonomous e-bus at Lusail Bus Depot, with a few people on board. The Ministry of Transportation supervised the trial's execution.
This is all part of the Ministry of Transportation's efforts to implement a number of strategies. Chief among them are the plans to switch to an electric transit system and the Autonomous Vehicles Strategy gradually and thoroughly, which was introduced in September of last year and aims to promote innovation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies while also keeping up with the transportation industry's rapid global advancements.
The Strategy also unolds smart and ecofriendly transport systems to achieve numerous benefits. Lesser harmful emissions and carbon footprints, fewer traffic accidents, lower energy and fuel consumption, and better quality of life, in step with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar's National Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE).
Cutting-edge technology and environmental stewardship come together in the autonomous e-bus. These buses are completely emission-free and run on pure electric energy. Superior safety and security standards are guaranteed by their cutting-edge sensors, high-definition cameras, lasers, and ultrasonic radars. This technology not only enhances the efficiency of transit but also contributes to a safer, more sustainable urban environment.
