The Executive Board of the WHO elected the State of Qatar as President of the Board at its 153rd session

The State of Qatar was chosen by the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to serve as President of the Board for a year during its 153rd session yesterday.  The leading role played by the State of Qatar at the international level, and its strong support for the World Health Organization in performing its mission of promoting health and wellness for all has led to the election of Qatar by the Member States.

The World Health Assembly sessions, which began on May 21 in Geneva and ended on May 30 there, were attended by the State of Qatar. The Qatari delegation, led by Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Muhammad al-Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, was chosen to serve as the Eastern Mediterranean Region's representative on the World Health Organization's Executive Board for three years during the World Health Assembly meetings.

HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health for the State of Qatar, thanked the Member States for their support in electing the State of Qatar as Chair of the Executive Board and pledged to collaborate closely with them and the WHO's governing bodies to carry out the organization's objectives and achieve universal health coverage.

The World Health Organisation Executive Board's 153rd session, which will last two days in Geneva, Switzerland, was inaugurated yesterday. It is being presided over by Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al-Kuwari, Minister of Public Health. The outcomes of the meetings of the Seventy-sixth World Health Assembly, the Committee's report on health emergency prevention, preparedness, and response, as well as topics related to the fourth pillar of the World Health Organisation regarding the improvement of the organization's efficiency and effectiveness in providing countries with better support and improving the budgetary, programmatic, and administrative processes are all discussed at the Board meetings.

The Board's primary duties include providing advice, facilitating the work of the Health Assembly, and putting into practise its decisions and policies. The Board meets at least twice a year and is made up of 34 people with technical expertise in the field of health.
