The General Authority of Customs is working to make the Abu Samra border fully electronic

An official stated that the General Authority of Customs (GAC) is trying to completely electronicize the Abu Samra border and that the GAC is also investigating information sharing with the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

The sole land border between Qatar and Saudi Arabia is now being planned to become a "smart port," according to Abdullah Al Jaber, Head of the Passenger Section, Land Ports of the GAC, in a recent interview on Qatar Radio. Since the GAC began implementing the continuing improvement, he said that over 107,000 automobiles have benefited from it.

Al Jaber claims that there have been talks with Saudi Arabia on exchanging car information so that it would be available when tourists from the GCC or Saudi Arabia come. Additionally, he said that the GAC will connect its systems to the insurance to share information.

Al Jaber stated that passengers will complete all of the required paperwork and submit it to Metrash2. The officer would swiftly verify this information at the border. 

The MoI designated a lane for pre-registered cars to use last month when crossing the Abu Samra border. The Metrash2 app's users were advised to log in, choose "Travel Services," then "Pre-Registration for Abu Samra Border Crossing," and fill out the necessary information.

Al Jaber asserted that commuters have been utilising the system ever since it was implemented, but he urged more drivers to utilise the pre-reserved lane scheme.

More than 376,500 passengers crossed the Abu Samra border during Eid, as announced by MoI. The ministry said more than 107,300 vehicles also used the border in the same period. Abu Samra received 844,737 passengers, during the World Cup, entering and exiting the country.
