Qatar Museums unveiled on 23 October 2022, three new exhibitions conveying various messages and surrounding diverse concepts.
The exhibition SAFAR shines a spotlight on the resilience of Afghan refugees and Afghanistan’s abundant history
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani unveiled Safar, a temporary exhibition organised by the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), highlighting the experiences of Afghan refugees following their evacuation in 2021.
After the Afghan government collapsed leading to a withdrawal of US and NATO troops from Afghanistan, in 2021, the world rushed to evacuate thousands of displaced Afghan citizens and foreigners. Safar highlights the experiences and stories of Afghan refugees through a collection of videos, photographs, and illustrated stories beginning with a look at Afghanistan's history, the importance of its geographical position at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, its wealth and natural resources, as well as being part of the most important and largest empires, and the basis of civilizations since the Bronze Age.
In addition, the exhibition conveys a message of thanks and appreciation to all local and international partners who contributed to the success of the evacuation.
The exhibition explores the experiences of Afghan refugees from a primary perspective to shed light on their unique stories and struggles following the evacuation. The exhibition also highlights the importance of Afghanistan as a centre of intellectual debate and artistic excellence for thousands of years and addresses the support of Qatar and its bilateral relations with Afghanistan over the past thirty years, as well as its role during the evacuation process in 2021.

Art Mill Museum 2030 - A preview of the concept, architecture, and garden design of Qatar's future
The exhibition is now on view at the Qatar Flour Mills Warehouse and the recently renovated Al Najada Heritage House #15 in Doha. H.E. Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, opened Qatar Museums’ special exhibition Art Mill Museum 2030.
Looking ahead towards the opening of the Art Mill Museum [مطاحن الفن Matahen Alfan] in 2030, the exhibition will introduce the concept of the museum, the architectural project by ELEMENTAL, led by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Alejandro Aravena, and the garden design.
The Art Mill Museum will house an exceptional and international art collection assembled over the past 40 years, with multidisciplinary works of great diversity dating from 1850 to the present.
The exhibition Art Mill Museum 2030, which will present the vision of the museum, the architectural project, and the signature garden, will be on view in two locations: the site of the flour mill on Doha’s Corniche, built in the 1990s, that is being creatively reimagined as the site of the museum, and Al Najada Heritage House #15. Each venue will present different aspects of the development of the Art Mill Museum and be free of charge for visitors.

Lusail Museum: Tales of a Connected World
Qatar Museums officially opened a special exhibition previewing the vision for the new Lusail Museum. Lusail Museum: Tales of a Connected World at QM Gallery Al Riwaq will showcase plans for Lusail Museum, its architectural design, and its world-class collection of art.
This introduction to the new institution, which is scheduled to break ground in 2023, is presented as part of the year-round national cultural movement Qatar Creates, opening in time for the influx of visitors to Doha for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.
The overarching exhibition, Lusail Museum: Tales of a Connected World, will highlight the past, present, and future of Lusail through images of archaeological remains, the Lusail Heritage site, and Lusail today as a flourishing city. The exhibition will comprise 247 objects, many from the world’s most extensive collection of paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, rare texts, and applied arts, assembled by Qatar Museums.
