Turkey will send more than 3,000 riot victims to Qatar to secure World Cup stadiums and hotels, Turkish Interior Ministry sources said.
With a population of just under 3 million - of which 380,000 are Qatari nationals - Qatar is facing a shortage of personnel as it prepares for the month-long FIFA football tournament.
It turned to its closest regional ally, Turkey, to secure the competition, which is expected to attract an unprecedented 1.2 million visitors to the Gulf nation.
According to the protocol signed between the two countries and published in Turkey's official gazette, Ankara will deploy 50 bomb experts, 3,000 riot police, including 80 sniffer dogs and riot dogs, and 100 special operations police to Qatar.
Turkish sources said that during the tournament, Turkish police will only take orders from Turkish superiors temporarily serving in Qatar. The Qatari side cannot directly order the Turkish police.
