The UK government has stated that the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy will assist in keeping fans safe during the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, according to the UK Defense Minister.
To combat threats to supporters, the Joint Typhoon Squadron, also known as 12 Squadron, situated at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire and operated by RAF and QEAF pilots, will be in place. They will support counter-terrorism efforts through air security operations during their deployment.
The unit was established in June 2020 and has been conducting training exercises in Qatar on a regular basis. The QEAF is in charge of air security for the World Cup and is responsible for the majority of activities. These collaborations aim to boost RAF flying hours, offer Qatari Emiri Air Force personnel with RAF-accredited training, and see long-term investment in RAF infrastructure and training facilities.
Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, for his part, stated that the UK and Qatar will work together to guarantee that spectators enjoy the major world football event.
