10th ‘Al Muhaddith Al Saghir’ Competition 2024 for memorising hadith for school students and parents

Al Marri praised the General Department of Endowments' efforts in setting up the competition as well as the two ministries' positive collaboration in promoting moral principles among students. Students must be registered for all three phases at any school in Qatar, whether it is public or private, in order to meet the requirements for participation. A maximum of 17 pupils from each school may take part. A student may apply to any category level without regard to his academic grade, in which he wants to participate.

The General Department of Endowments, Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, has organised the 10th "Al Muhaddith Al Saghir" Competition 2024 for students in all government and private schools, as well as their parents, to memorise hadith in order to foster a love of the Prophet (PBUH). Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, the director of the general department of endowments, announced during the press conference that registration for the competition would begin on February 1 and run until February 29, 2024, via the ministry's website. Khamis Al Muhannadi, the director of Umm Al Qura Primary School for Boys, and Nasser Al Marri, the head of the Islamic Education Guidance Section of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), were also present at the news conference.

The competition for parents is scheduled for March 16, 2024, according to Dr. Sheikh Khalid. On March 31, 2024, male pupils will compete, and on April 1, 2024, female candidates will do the same. He said that 6,705 competitors, including parents and pupils, participated in the previous tournament, Al Muhaddith Al Saghir 2023. Aside from the holy Quran, hadith is a collection of traditions that include sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Together with stories of his everyday activities (the Sunna), hadith is the primary source of guidance for Muslims.

Both boys' and girls' candidates will compete in five categories. Along with the narrator and Takhrij Al Hadith, the applicants from levels 1 through 3 will compete in memorising the first 20, 30, and 40 hadiths from Al Nawawi's Forty Hadith.

The fourth phase of the competition will test the participants' memorization skills of Takhrij Al Hadith, Imam Ibn Rajab's additions, and Al Nawawi's Forty Hadith. Memorising Kitab Al Jami' from Imam Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani's book "Bulugh Al Maram Min Adillat Al Ahkam" together with Takhrij Al Hadith and the narrator is the fifth level (Elite) requirement.

In stage 1 of the competition, parents will compete to memorise fifty hadith from Al Nawawi's Forty Hadith, with additions by Imam Ibn Rajab. Those who serve as imams or Sharia science instructors for the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs are not eligible for this group. Level 2 competition is open to all parents. The contestants must remember Kitab Al Jami' from Imam Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani's book "Bulugh Al Maram Min Adillat Al Ahkam," along with the narration and Takhrij Al Hadith. A public competition will be held to determine which male and female student category received the greatest points. Three male and three female students will receive competition shields as prizes.

Al Marri praised the General Department of Endowments for hosting the tournament and the two ministries' positive collaboration in promoting moral values among students. In accordance with the eligibility requirements, pupils must be enrolled for all three phases at any public or private school in Qatar.

A maximum of 17 pupils from each school may compete. A student may apply to any category level without concern to academic grade, in which he wants to participate.

In the parents category, participants must be the legal guardian of a student registered in any type of school in Qatar, including private and public institutions, for the three phases at a rate of fifteen applicants per school.
