Diverse lineup of free workshops, drop-in sessions, clubs, and guided tours to be held at the National Museum of Qatar

News EventThe Qatar Museums announced a wide lineup of free workshops, drop-in sessions, clubs, and guided tours for families, adults, and children at the National Museum of Qatar, Fire Station: Artist in Residence, and the Museum of Islamic Art. A number of new free events will be hosted in August across many of its institutions, including the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), Fire Station: Artist in Residence, and the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, and Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.
Fire Station: Artist in Residence
Artist in Residence will host a series of five-day workshops for teens and young adults (ages 14 - 20), with subjects ranging from silkscreen printing to children's book illustration, resin painting, and analogue photography. The Fire Station's Education Studio will host the following workshops:
The Book Sleeve Edition with Zainab Al Shibani
Date: 30th of July - 3rd of August 2023
Time: 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
The session will start with an overview of silk screen printing, Arabic writing, and artwork. Then, participants will design a book sleeve inspired by their favourite book or graphic novel. Please keep in mind that this training will be held in English.
Hassan Manasrah - Children’s Book Illustration
Date: 6–10 August 2023
Time: 4:00– 6:30 PM
With visual artist and illustrator Hassan Manasrah, who was an artist-in-residence at the Fire Station in 2018-2019, the students will be exposed to children's book illustration and learn about producing their own illustrated book. This session requires participants to bring a laptop or tablet. Please keep in mind that this training will be held in Arabic.
Roula Saad's Resin Art
Date: 13–17 August 2023
Tme: 4:00–6:00 PM
In this session, guided by artist Roula Saad, students will learn various techniques and construct their own resin art piece using moulds, coloured paints, foils, and other materials. Please keep in mind that this training will be held in Arabic.
Capturing Moments: Exploring the Art of Film Photography with Mohammed Al Hammadi & Sultan Al Jaber
Date: 20–24 August 2023
Time: 4:00–6:00 PM
This analogue photography session, led by photography enthusiasts Mohammed Al Hammadi and Sultan Al Jaber, will focus on the beauty of film and the art of capturing memories in a single frame. Please keep in mind that this training will be held in Arabic.

The National Museum of Qatar is giving a customised guided tour designed specifically for the visually impaired, as well as an interactive tour for families and skills training for adolescents and young adults, as part of its commitment to inclusiveness and accessibility.
Families Exploration Journey

Families with children aged 6 to 9 will go on an interactive tour of the museum galleries and family-focused exhibitions. Using problem-solving skills, children will actively improve their understanding of Qatar's environment, tradition, and culture.
Let’s Discover the Museum Collection (For the Visually Impaired)

Visitors with visual impairments are invited to explore the museum and join us on a special tour that allows them to interact with the collections while embarking on a captivating journey through the museum's galleries, immersing themselves in Qatar's rich history and culture.
Junior Workshop Facilitator
The National Museum of Qatar will launch an initiative to encourage teenagers and young people aged 13 to 19 to actively lead and participate to creative programming at the National Museum of Qatar. Training sessions on leadership skills, audience management, workshops, and preparation will be provided to participants. The course is open to Qatari nationals or individuals born in Qatar aged 13 to 19. Contact programsnmoq@qm.org.qa with any questions or queries.

In August, the Museum of Islamic Art will conduct three workshops for both families with small children and adults, guaranteeing an inclusive experience for all.
Family Day – Geometry

Join MIA's learning and outreach team for a Family Day at the MIA auditorium to commemorate International Day of Youth.Each month, we will draw inspiration from MIA and the world around us; join us in August to find mathematical patterns in mosques to commemorate our new exhibition Mosques in Qatar: Then and Now. There is no need to register for this drop-in session.
Youth Day - Library Puzzles and Games

Come to the MIA library to celebrate International Day of Youth by participating in a fun combination of puzzles and activities linked to Islamic Art and living in a sustainable environment.
Planet Kids Club - The Blue Jackal

MIA welcomes children aged 5 to 7 to join this month's kids club and participate in a variety of activities centred on the topic of environmental protection. Your children will enjoy storytimes on caring for our earth, various arts and activities, and educational parts about museum artefacts. Mughal Artifacts

Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum
The Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum is launching an active campaign to engage children and teenagers aged 3 to 18 in an exciting summer vacation experience. Throughout August, the museum also offers guided family visits, guided school tours, and story time programmes.
3-2-1 Summer Sports Fun Factory
Every week through August 25
Time: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. between 4 and 5:30 a.m.
The '3-2-1 Summer Sports Fun Factory' is currently taking place at the Activation Zone - 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, with a different sports activity for each day of the week, including Handball Sunday, Basketball Monday, Hockey Tuesday, Athletics Wednesday, Boxing Thursday, Football Friday, and Rugby Saturday.
QOSM Guided Family Visit
Date: August 31, 2023
Time: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
This guided tour will highlight the museum's permanent collection and educate visitors on the history of early sports, the Olympics, and their modernization path.
The trip also highlights the accomplishments of some of your favourite sportsmen as well as the history of sports in Qatar. Following the tour, children will be invited to the activation zone, where they will be able to put their athletic abilities to the test.
QOSM Guided School Tours
Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday
Time: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
QOSM provides guided tours for schools and students that provide an in-depth look at the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and its permanent exhibits. This tour covers several permanent galleries, including A Global History of Sport, The Olympics, Hall of Athletes, Global Sports Nation, and A Heritage of Sport. Tours are provided on various days during the school year, and reservations are necessary.
Storytime: The Path towards the IslandEvery Saturday | 4:00 p.m. (English), 4:30 p.m. (Arabic)
Bring your kids to the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic Sports Museum for a storytime. The Path to the Island chronicles the narrative of Youssef and Moza as they trek the Qatari desert in search of a secret island. Youssef gets into difficulty, and the desert animals must band together to help him. This beautifully designed children's book highlights Qatar's tremendous animal variety.
This August, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art will continue to conduct guided tours and art workshops, as well as a College Night for university students.

Family Guided Tour

Join this family-friendly guided tour to learn about Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art's world-class collection of modern and contemporary art from the Arab world. This guided tour will highlight the permanent collection of the museum and expose young visitors to modern art. Following the tour, children will be encouraged to participate in a sketching workshop inspired by the gallery's items. Please keep in mind that this tour is only available in Arabic.
Art Lessons with Ismael Azzam
