News EventDoha will be presenting the UN International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (ISARAG) conference, from October 17 to 19. "Global Forum on the INSARAG After-Action Review of the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) response to the Türkiye and Syria Earthquakes" is the topic of the meeting, which will comprise 90 participating nations. The Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) is organising the event, which fits into the INSARAG's agenda to learn about the lessons learned from events and disasters that struck several countries worldwide and the resulting losses in terms of people and material goods. This makes it necessary to provide an overview of the disaster's aftermath, particularly the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
The main components of the search and rescue response in urban areas, a basic analysis of the response, draught recommendations, and lessons learned, numerous future plans and applications in detail with regard to ensuring standards and quality, the rapid response mechanism for complex emergency situations, access challenges, and other issues will all be covered in this context during the conference.
The Qatari International Search and Rescue Group plays a vital role in the quick response to several disasters throughout the globe, and the State of Qatar is honoured to be hosting this event. The State of Qatar was selected in 2022 to serve as the 2023 Regional Chair for search and rescue teams from the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
The resolution on "Strengthening the Effectiveness and Coordination of International USAR Assistance" passed by the UNGA on December 16, 2002, serves as the foundation for INSRAG's operations. It has been given several responsibilities, the most crucial of which are catastrophe preparedness and response, which will increase lifesaving and lessen detrimental effects. In light of the fact that global climate change poses a threat to disasters like floods and earthquakes, national search and rescue teams operating in urban areas across borders saw the practical application of these tasks during group work during the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria. These tasks were carried out in accordance with internationally agreed-upon regulations and rules.
