Hosts Qatar ground out a hard-fought 1-0 win against Tajikistan in Group A of the AFC Asian Cup at the Al Bayt Stadium on Tuesday to qualify for the knockout phase with one game to spare. They took an unbeatable six points from the victory to lead the group.
Qatar fought for the win from the start in an effort to guarantee they made it to the second round without any problems.
In the seventeenth minute, Akram Afif scored the lone goal of the game. His centering shot with his right foot found the lower left corner of the net. After a quick break, Almoez Ali helped him with a through pass.
On Monday, China will play the hosts, Qatar, while Lebanon will play Tajikistan, who are making their debut.
