MIA showcased the “Isfahan Abayas & Caftans Fashion Show”; visitors can explore the world of Safavid textiles

In its courtyard, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) recently hosted the "Isfahan Abayas & Caftans Fashion Show." Inspired by the current MIA exhibition "Fashioning an Empire: Textiles from Safavid Iran," fifteen gifted designers showcased their innovative and traditional works during the occasion.

The walkway that led to the courtyard was lined with an exquisite exhibition of patterns that welcomed guests as they approached the fashion show. Attendees were given an insight into the meticulous intricacies and wide range of influences that go into each product by viewing the designs and inspirations of the featured designers.

Talents from Qatar and the surrounding region were among the designers whose creations adorned the runway. The event, titled "Unveiling Isfahan Fashion," is one of several events that go along with MIA's "Fashioning an Empire: Textiles from Safavid Iran" exhibition. Visitors may experience the rich tradition of Persian textiles and see the marriage of culture and creative talent through film screenings and workshops.

The exhibition, which was developed in partnership with the National Museum of Asian Art of the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, examines how the silk industry developed under Shah 'Abbas and emphasises Isfahan as the heart of Safavid artistic excellence. It provides an insight into Iran's historical significance as a centre of creativity and fashion worldwide.

The show, which runs until June 22, encourages visitors to explore the world of Safavid textiles and take in the originality of modern designers. Free exhibition admittance is offered to those who pre-register online for museum admission.

The show concludes fittingly with modern pieces created by designers headquartered in Qatar in association with M7, the centre of innovation in fashion and design. These works honour the historical fabrics exhibited and show how Safavid silks continue to inspire contemporary artists.
