189 mosques around the country have been chosen by the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs to observe I'tikaf and worship on each of the final ten nights of the holy month of Ramadan in 1445 Hijri.
The ministry issued a statement urging anyone wishing to observe these auspicious nights to familiarize themselves with the jurisprudence guidelines of I'tikaf, which are based on Sharia rules and should be carried out in accordance with the Prophetic Sunnah. Additionally, the ministry asked that people observe I'tikaf in the mosques that have been designated as public places of worship, with amenities specifically designed to serve those who observe it.
As one of the most important endowments for all Muslims, the statement stressed the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, meticulously cleaning the I'tikaf spaces within the mosque, and protecting its property. Those who wish to observe I'tikaf should be at least 18 years old; if not, they should be escorted by guardians. The ministry also underlined how crucial it is to keep loud noises and annoyances such side conversations from people who observe I'tikaf away from worshippers.
The ministry reminded I'tikaf watchers not to sully the exquisite architecture of mosques by hanging garments on walls, columns, or furnishings.
